Up!

It isn't 'wrong' or 'bad' to be bald, have thinning hair or to have receding hairlines.

I do, however, think it is wrong for baldness to be the cause of low self-esteem and anxiety, especially when there are ways of removing this... very quickly, with scalp micropigmentation.

The chances are if you are reading this page might understand what I'm talking about. If so, I can help you.

Give me a few minutes of your time and I'll show you how...

Does This Sound Familiar?

Look at the below categories... do you recognize any of these symptoms?

Maybe to some of you this sounds familiar. This is all based from confessions that I have received from my clients over the years.

The good news is it is treatable... and it is called scalp micropigmentation!

Are you Fully Bald?

  • You don’t feel the confidence you used to around the opposite sex.

  • Your friends call you ‘baldy’ or ‘slaphead’, you chuckle but it stings a bit.

  • You feel like you can’t really mention any of this to most people, feeling like you should 'go on with it' or 'suck it up'.

  • You’ve considered a hair transplant, but either a) can’t afford it. b) You don’t think your condition justifies surgery, or the pain of it or c) You’re worried it won’t retain very well and / or will look odd.

Partially Bald or  Thinning Hair?

  • You dislike looking at yourself in the mirror in elevators or changing rooms, because you feel low-hung halogen bright lights every inch of hair loss.

  • Your eyes immediately dart to your hair or hairline when looking back at older pictures of yourself.

  • You’ve had to get experimental with your hairstyles, in order to obscure your thinning hair.

  • You’ve tried expensive pharmacy Mixodil-based topical sprays / ointments and… aren’t exactly crazy about the results. You still use it anyway because… well… what other choice do you have?

Don't Take My Word For It...

Here's what my SMP clients have said about my work!

What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation is a non-surgical treatment which uses the process of implanting pigment to simulate the results of natural hair, using specialised pigments and needles.

This method has been established for over 20 years, and has a variety of applications. It can be used to simulate hair stubble on the scalp, where hair does not exist (in the case of bald or balding men, or those with receeding hairlines). Or it can additional add the appearance of density to existing hair which is thinning.

It is a non-surgical alternative to hair transplantation, but can also be used to compliment hair transplant treatments to add density post-treatment.

In the medical sphere scalp micropigmentation is also implemented in cases where hair loss is caused by alopecia, cancer or due to scars or scar tissue on the scalp.

Scalp Micropigmentation... Not Tattoo!

Although on the surface there are a lot of similarities between scalp micropigmentation and conventional tattooing. There are also a lot of differences.

I have a lot of respect for the craft of body tattooing, and I couldn’t do their job. I also believe that a conventional body tattoo artist without specialized training, can't do mine. Here's why...

SMP Practitioners:

Scalp micropigmentation technicians only work on the scalp, and use only one methodology. They undergo specialized training in order to replicate the results of true human hair, and to adhere to the natural hairlines of both men and women to reflect their age, in addition to face and head shape. If they follow the correct methods, it is a very systematic process with little margin for error, such as: discolored healed results or color migration.

Tattoo Artists:

I have a lot of respect for the tattoo artist profession... it is indeed, an art. However, while some are gifted creatively, the methods used are not suitable for scalp micropigmentation. Additionally, the scalp area has a lot of vascular bloodflow and is a very oily region, so a specialized method is required for this area. Often tattoo artists have little, or no experience in working on this region as they work throughout the body.

01

TRAINING

SMP Practitioners:

Scalp micropigmentation requires specialized pigment, needles, and devices. Responsible SMP artists source all of these, from suppliers who have made these specifically for scalp micropigmentation. Why? As mentioned above the scalp area is a very unusual area of the body, due to very high blood flow to the region, and increased levels of subaceous glands so any implanted pigment often doesn't react as it would on other areas of the body, and is exposed to higher levels of sun exposure (yes, even in the UK!).

Our principle concern is the healed result, so any pigment spreading or discoloration as SMP professionals is not acceptable... our tools help us to achieve this.

Needles: Specialized needles (Nano Needles) are used for scalp micropigmentation. These ensure that the minimal amount of pigment is introduced to the skin, in order for the color to retain correctly.

Pigments: My SMP pigments are made in the USA. They are CTL approved. It is organic, acrylic free, have no blue or green hues and produce fantastic 'true-to-life' healed results.

Device: As mentioned below, I use the world's first (and to my knowledge only) purpose-made scalp micropigmentation device... the Microbeau Apollo.

Tattoo Artists:

Inks: You have probably noticed that black body tattoos are implanted black, but almost always heals blueish or greenish. On the scalp, this is not an acceptable outcome. Tattoo inks are usually cheaper to synthesize, this is acceptable for tattoo artists as they use a large amount of ink to cover large surface areas of the body with artistic designs.

Devices: The tattoo artist aims for deep implantation of pigment, to do this the artist uses a tattoo device with a powerful motor to implant their pigment (more on this later).

Needles: Conventional tattoo needles come in many different configurations, almost always with multiple needles to cover large areas of the body quickly. However, as the scalp is very oily and with a lot of bloodflow this can very quickly lead to color migration (blurred points on the scalp, in some instances the surface area will be 6 times larger than an SMP practitioner’s point). SMP practitioners use only one needle type, a precision 1 point nano needle specifically designed for scalp micropigmentation

02

EQUIPMENT

03

SMP Practitioners:

I don’t believe that the hairline for a client should be done by eye. So much so, I have developed my own 3 point system for measuring the perfect hairline for my clients called ‘Bespoke Hairlines™’. I have used my method on hundreds of clients, to provide for my clients a hairline which reflects their age, and facial morphology with mm accuracy.

Tattoo Artists:

As it is not the nature of their profession, tattoo artists are usually unaware of the correct hairline to implement on a new client who suffers from male pattern baldness. Often do not have a method or system in place to be able to recreate a client’s hairline without it looking somewhat ‘square’ or ‘boxy’ if drawn freehand.

OBJECTIVE

SMP Practitioners:

A scalp micropigmentation artist aims to blend in… not stand out! Aside from medical scenarios (e.g. alopecia) we have one aim, to mimic your existing hairs on your scalp to create a seamless boundary of my work, and your existing hair. Everything in approach from my training, the pigments I use, the device I practice with, the needle I select and the pressure in which I apply to your skin is aligned to achieve this one solitary objective… to make it appear as though you don’t suffer from male baldness. Everyday.

Tattoo Artists:

A tattoo artist is deservant of respect for their flexibility. They may on the same day be required to perform a calligraphic scripture on a woman’s wrist, a lifelike resemblance / portrait on the upper arm of a middle aged man, or a multicolored shaded design on the lower back and everything in between. But the point is always the same, each piece is supposed to make a statement. To stand out. To be bold. This is important, as the philosophy of scalp micropigmentation is the complete opposite… to appear as if you never visited us!

SMP Practitioners:

A very key difference between both approaches is the depth in which the pigment is implanted in the skin. SMP artists usually operate at 2.2mm - 2.6mm depth. The objective is to only implant pigment as deep as is necessary for the color to retain, but not any more than this. Deeper dermal penetration is correlated with increased pigment spread under the skin’s surface.

Tattoo Artists:

Tattoo artists ordinarily operate at a deeper dermal depth, which means the pigment is retained in the skin, for bolder, stronger results… which are desirable for many body tattoo applications. However, I believe this method is not suitable for scalp micropigmentation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) Painful?

9 out of 10 of my clients report that it doesn't hurt. You may experience a little discomfort until your skin get used to the feeling. The discomfort level is not comparable to conventional tattoos, as we work more superficially on the skin as skin on the head is thin overall. We will also advise you on pre-treatment protocol during our consultation to make sure you will have a pleasant experience with the best possible results.

What is the Healing Process Like for Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?

Immediately After The sebaceous glands (the glands in your skin which produce oil) are highly concentrated on the scalp, most clients do not experience any dryness of itchiness after treatment. The First 1-4 Days For a few days there will be small scabs on your scalp tissue, that resemble hair. Additionally, a degree of redness is normal during this time period, this is normal and will subside over time. 5-7 Days After Treatment The treated area will heal finally heal revealing your more

Can Scalp Micropigmentation be Combined with Hair Transplantation?

Absolutely! In fact, this is regarded by many as the 'optimal solution'. Hair transplantation conventionally works by removing hair follicles already on your scalp (usually from the side and back of the scalp). However, a hair transplant surgeon, no matter how skilled can only transplant hair you already have. This poses a problem however, the problem of volume... hair transplants can tend to look sparse especially men with Norwood Scale 7 hair loss, but the implementation of SMP beneath this creates a (surprisingly real!) illusion of depth and volume in the hair. The only drawback is the expense, as it is an invasive procedure under strict surgical conditions the cost is usually 3-5 times more than Scalp Micropigmentation from a reputable surgeon. This combination method is very popular amongst celebrities who have undergone. A quick Google search will reveal a plethora of familiar faces who have undergone this combination procedure.

What is Scalp Micropigmentation / Hair Tattoo?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-invasive, permanent and affordable procedure. We are using specially designed micro needles to deposit pigment into the scalp to create the appearance of tiny hair follicles or short hair stubble. Hair follicle simulation can be performed on bald, receding, thinning clients and people who are looking to camouflage scars, burns or hair transplant scars and also people with medical conditions like alopecia or cancer.

Does Scalp Micropigmentation Look Natural?

We are proud to provide one of the most natural results in the industry. Each hairline design, hairline finish and follicle replication is customised according to our Bespoke hairline design technique. We will match perfectly the shade based on your existing hair colour and skin tone so you do not need to worry about it. Check out our gallery for examples of our work.

How Much Does Scalp Micropigmentation Cost?

Scalp micropigmentation prices vary per area treated. Our prices for male pattern baldness are based on Norwood scale of baldness for man and Ludwig scale of baldness for woman. Prices starts from £500 for a minor adjustment up to £2000 for Norwood 7 badness. Work on scars, burns, alopecia clients and stubble pigmentation are POA. Our prices are total prices based on up to 4 session treatment so you will know the costs before we even start. You can send us pictures or arrange free consultation to find out exactly how much it cost.

Is Scalp Micropigmentation Permanent?

Yes our results are permanent however you will need to top ups every 3-6 years depends on your lifestyle. As our skin is a living organ and pigment fade over time due to excessive sweating, sun exposure, skin oiliness, medication and many other factors. In simple terms... to maximise the lifespan of your treatment, if you will look after your scalp micropigmentation your SMP will look after you.

How long does a Scalp Micropigmentation Procedure Take?

On average it takes 2 – 4 hours per session. and a total of 2-4 sessions are required in total. The first session is longer due to hairline design and your overall expectations. You may also have more question to ask. The following sessions are of a shorter duration of about 30 minutes or so.

Do I need time off After Treatment?

No, you do not! Scalp micropigmentation is non-invasive with no downtime. Depending on your skin type, redness may last up to 2 days but you still can continue with your daily routine. We will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to follow so you can get the best results and with no fear of it having any negative results on the aesthetics of your final healed results.

How is my Hairline Designed for Scalp Micropigmentation?

We are proud of out Bespoke Hairline™ Design Technique. Each of our hairlines is customized to your face shape, skin tone, age and most importantly...to your expectations! If you are not sure about the shape we will draw your new hairline during our consultation so you can get used to it or suggest adjustments if desired.

Do I Have to Cut my Hair Short before my Scalp Micropigmentation Treatment?

This depends on the circumstances. If your baldness is extensive then is more likely that you will need to shave it short to maintain the most natural and attractive results possible. If you are thinning, we can work with your existing hair so there is no need to shave it as we will add density or make your profiles more defined without the need to shave it off.

Is Scalp Micropigmentation Suitable for Women?

Yes SMP can be performed on both male and female clients. Ordinarily we perform 'density' treatments on female clients, which augments the appearance of density or volume within your existing hairs. There is no need to shave or crop your hair for density SMP treatments.

Does Scalp Micropigmentation Work with Grey Hair?

Absolutely. If your hair goes grey you can still fully benefit from scalp micropigmentation. The base of the hair is always darker than actual hair so if you will keep it short your hair will appear darker. We also utilize shade selection to match your existing 'salt & pepper' pattern (if applicable) pattern so you will get you the most natural results possible.

Client Stories

Another one of my most memorable clients was Matt. Matt is a professional male performer / model for one of the largest companies in this field in the UK.

He felt under a lot of scrutiny as he was often under stage lights, and had the additional pressure of always having to look his best, due to the nature of his profession.

Dave was very satisfied with the results, giving him a boost in self confidence which carried over into both his work and personal life!

Dave was amazed with the healed results and additionally remarked that no one has ever questioned whether it was his real hair.

I Only Use The Best!

The Microbeau Apollo (Made in the USA) is the world's first device specifically designed and built from the ground up for for scalp micropigmentation, I love working with it.

Why Does it Matter?

Most other practitioners use tattoo machines (I believe the motors on most of these are too strong) or repurposed permanent makeup devices (not necessarily incorrect, but sometimes results can be variable).

The key to good scalp work is consistency. The precise 2.3mm stroke of the Apollo and the bottom-weighted design ensure that the practitioner has complete control of their movement for the entire procedure (sometimes up to 4 hours), to produce reliable, stable healed results.

Rest assured, it is also fully autoclavable for hygiene purposes.

Who is It For?

Scalp micropigmentation can be used on a large variety of hair loss scenarios. Scalp Micropigmentation artists segment these areas into zones (usually dictated by the Norwood Baldness Scale for Male Pattern Baldness).

Male Pattern Baldness

Male pattern baldness is my most common client type. My SMP method has been used to create the appearance of thick, strong hair  from moderate baldness on the crown on the head, to a full bald pate on men from all ages and nationalities to amazing effect!

Receded Hairlines

Scalp Micropigmentation is a great way to restore receded hairlines.

Thinning Hair

My SMP method can also be used for thinning hair on the scalp. Pigment is implanted to the scalp in a lifelike pattern to create the illusion of depth and hair density in the scalp region. In fact, the illusion of depth and volume on the scalp is so lifelike... only your hairdresser will be able to tell the difference!

Medical: Alopecia

With some modifications to my SMP method (pigment and depth), I am happy to say that SMP can also be used on the scalp. Clients with alopecia are some of my favorite appointments, as many have suffered from this terrible condition for years and I'm not being dramatic when I say that my SMP can be life changing for some of my clients.

Scar Camoflauge

SMP can also be used to cover scars (either from surgery or trauma), the results of this are best when a client also have close cropped hair around the scar area. In fact, depending on scar size in many scenarios it appears as though the customer never had a scar.

I'M REALLY HAPPY TO SEE SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION START TO RECEIVE THE RECOGNITION IT deserves! .

What's The Process ?

Step 1

We can arrange a consultation, either face to face, via phone or email (assisted with photographs) to determine the best solution for you and your hair loss situation.

From this initial consultation, I will guide you through the process in order to determine a customised treatment plan for you.

Free Consultation

Step 2

After you are happy with our treatment plan, we will schedule your treatment.

Typically, you’ll require 2-3 sessions, scheduled 10-14 days apart to get a perfect result.

Book Your Appoinment

Step 3

It’s treatment time! Ordinarily we schedule 3 appointments to maximise the benefits of scalp micropigmentation.

In the first session we establish your hairline and form the foundation of your new look. You will notice an immediate difference after the 1st session. The 2nd and 3rd appointments are usually shorter aesthetic touch ups, which allow us to add additional density and to make minor modifications to maximise the overall transformation of your treatment.

Bye bye Hair Loss!
